Sometimes you just need a good excuse to whip up a spiffy new table runner for the kitchen! Sometimes you need a quick creative project with a beginning, middle and end! Sometimes you have that special fabric that calls to you.
My good excuse was that candle wax was accidentally spilled on my old Red, White and Blue table runner. Now, I did manage to use the old paper towel and iron trick to get most of the wax off, but over the years, I had washed and dried this table runner many many times. It was looking pretty tired.
I needed a quick creative project because I am so imbedded in several long term projects in various stages of completion (or in-completion). I started this Tuesday afternoon and pretty much pieced the top that day. Quilted it Wednesday afternoon and bound it last night and this morning.
The fabric is Quilts of Valor by Windham. Fell in love with it on a shopping spree at some point and every time I come across it in my stash – it calls to me! It says “pick me, pick me!”.
There was no pattern – I just pieced a few Ohio Star blocks using the instructions from Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Block of the Week. Then I added sashing and a border.
My kitchen is also adorned with a very patriotic wall hanging, which was pieced and hand quilted last year.
So my kitchen is all ready for the Fourth of July (other than a boatload food for a fun family gathering). I better get cookin’!!!
Have a wonderful weekend, y’all!
