Whistling Dixie in the Rain

It’s a rainy day here in North Texas and a good day to sew!  I finally succumbed to the enticement of Barbara Brackman’s new Block of the Month called Dixie Diary.  Check it out on her Civil War Quilt Blog.  Since there is only one block a month, I’ve been putting it off, but I just couldn’t wait any longer!

Here is the January block – called Her Flag Flying:

DD1--Her-Flag-FlyingThe pinks and browns are totally different from my usual palate but were a dream to work with – soft and luxurious.  The fabric line is Addison by Windham Fabrics.

Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Sampler: 50 Quilt Blocks with Stories from History arrived in the mail yesterday.  This is a wonderful compilation of quilt blocks and Civil War history, and another great way to spend a rainy winter afternoon.

Hope the rest of your week is absolutely fabulous!

  1. You said Addison was good to work with. I’m pretty new to quilting, but am noticing that quilting fabric varies greatly. I find I like best the fabric not so tightly woven but with some heft – like Brackman’s Morris lines. Is this the same for Addison? Thanks in advance for your advice.
