Civil War Ketchup

OK, not “ketchup” – but “catch up”.  I’ve been out of town on a wonderful vacation and today I am playing catch up.  Eighteen loads of laundry and a long grocery list later, I was able to sit down at the sewing machine to catch up on the Civil War block of the week (see Barbara Brackman’s blog).

Last week’s block is called Railroad Crossing.  This block looked more complicated than it turned out and I’m really happy with the results:

This week’s block is called Peterson’s Stars and Stripes.  I had to dig in my stash a bit and use a different fabric line for the star and for one of the cream stripes.  I have been using Neesha by Sentimental Studios for Moda in the previous Civil War blocks but nothing in that line seemed to work so I decided it was time to expand my horizons:

Be sure to read the wonderful histories included in the Civil War Quilts blog.  The history gives each block special significance and meaning.  Also check out the blocks created by other CWBOW groupies at Flickr Civil War group.

Have a great day and keep cool!
