Snow Day = Sew Day

Snow in North Texas is rare so when we get barely an inch of white powdery stuff – we officially call it a “Snow Day“.  And for me, that means a good chance to sew all day!  No grocery shopping, no running to the gym, no errands, oh, and no housework either!  😉  A “Snow Day” is a holiday!

So Thursday I sewed all day – and since there was still a bit of snow out in the woods on Friday, I sewed all day Friday too!  The biggest accomplishment was the February blocks for the Carol Doak Scrap Scramble.  I’m no longer calling this a block of the month, since this time there were 9 paper pieced blocks…

February-BlocksThere are eight 6 1/2″ heart blocks and one large 12 1/2″ block.  Can you see why I needed two whole “Snow Days” to get these done?

Here is a close up of the large block:

February-Big-BlockI also worked on the hand applique Album quilt.  I started on my second block but I don’t think I’ve shared my first block with you yet:

Block-10---1st-blockThis is actually block 10 but had no stems and I wasn’t quite ready for stems when I started.  But thanks to my friend Barb, I’m ready now…

stemsBarb told me about this clever gizmo – the Clover bias tape maker.

Clover-Bias-Tape-MakerSo, I’ve been busy making the perfect stems for my applique.  I could make stems all day!  They are that much fun!  Thanks Barb!

So today – the snow in the woods is gone, the pantry is bare and my “Snow Day” holidays are over.  I hope you have some time to carve out a “Snow Day” now and then!

  1. Today was not totally lost. I moved embroidery patterns to my sewing machine, prepared binding for 2 quilts, surged my Great Grandson a blackboard book, did laundry, and, last of all, big sigh, got my taxes filed.

I hope I feel like getting some real work done tomorrow.
