Retirement Celebrations

I am officially now retired!  Yeah!  This last week has been filled with lunches with friends and co-workers, a wonderful retirement reception and training my replacement.  It has been fun, exciting and exhausting.

My friends knew I was retiring in order to make more time for the real pleasures in my life – family, grandchildren, quilting, cooking and creativity.  My desire to devote more time to art of quilting is something I’ve mentioned frequently.  So, when planning the retirement celebration, my wonderful friends knew how to make it very special.

Like this delicious patchwork quilt cake:

There were lots of friends, lots of food, lots of visiting and a few speeches about my 33 years at TCU.

But then I was surprised by an incredibly special gift.  Friends and co-workers had collaborated on 70 signed quilt blocks.  I am so blessed to have these people in my life!  Of course, we had to show a few of them off:

I have a many wonderful friends to thank personally for the wonderful memories this quilt will bring but I wanted to share a few of the blocks of some extra special ladies:

Between the planning of the project, gathering the signatures and tremendous task of sewing all the blocks – I am forever grateful for the wonderful memory you have given me.

Now I need to break out the design wall and start playing 🙂
