All Cooped Up and Stars in a Time Warp

Well, the weather outside is wonderful now; Spring has sprung – finally! But for the last several weeks it has been awful! So what do you do when the weather outside is frightful?  Well, I stitch and cook and eat and stitch some more!

I worked on this chicken wall hanging for my kitchen – called All Cooped Up:

Cooped-Up-Wall-HangingMost of the fabric came from a line called El Gallo by Deb Strain for Moda.  But some, including the small red chickens came from French Market by Paula Scaletta (Blue Hill Fabrics).  I also made some cute place mats:

Cooped-Up-PlacematMy chicken salt and pepper shakers are a little stunned by all the company!

Cooped-Up-Chickens I also caught up on Barbara Brackman’s latest adventure – Stars in a Time Warp.  Each Wednesday, she posts a blog which explores a fabric color or theme and we all play along by making a 6 inch star block from our stash based on her blog.  Well, we are 9 weeks into this quilt along now but I have yet to share any of my stars!  So here you go:

Week one – Turkey Red.  I not only came up with a good turkey red, but also some red turkeys!

1-Turkey-RedWeek two – Prussian Blue.  I’m not sure if Kaffe Fassett is Prussian or not, but his blue fabric seemed to fit the bill.

2-Prussion-BlueWeek three – Shirtings.  Probably not my favorite block … but the fabrics seem to qualify as shirtings.

3-ShirtingsWeek four – Chrome Orange or Cheddar.  I don’t have much orange but these peaches and dots are fun and orange.

4-Chrome-Oranage-or-CheddarWeek 5 – Overdyed Green.  Well, I just went nuts with this one!

5-Over-dyed-greenBut it really didn’t work with any of the others I’ve done… so I made another one that uses a green that is more in the line we were looking for…

5-Over-dyed-green-number-2But I still really don’t like it. So there may be a third…

Week 6 – Double Pink.  I think I have several pinks going on here.

6-double-pinkWeek 7 – Madder Prints.  I had never head of Madder prints before… the paisley print and red in this block seems to work.

7---Madder-printsWeek 8 – Indigo Blue.  My very favorite block (so far).  I could make a whole quilt with this combination (if I had enough of the fabric!).

8-Indigo-BlueWeek 9 – Chrome Yellow.  This is supposed to be a yellow with a greenish tinge.  Well, the only yellow like that in my stash came from the Halloween fabrics!  How fun is that!?

9-Chrome-YellowSo here are my first 9 blocks on the design wall.  There will be many more to come!

Weeks-1-thru-9There will eventually be 52 of these 6 inch blocks.  That’s a really big crazy fun quilt – all from stash!

Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. Wow – what a colorful quilt of stars you’ll have! I love the chicken decor — including the wall hanging and placemats, but adore those salt and peppers!!!!
