Have you heard about The Splendid Sampler? This online project began in February with twice weekly releases of free block patterns from wonderful well-known designers. Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson seem to be the originators but there is a whole slew of contributing designers listed on their web site.
I hadn’t heard about it until our bee retreat a few weeks ago. Sue H. had a bunch of cute little 6″ blocks up on the design wall and I couldn’t resist.
Then Nikki M. was telling me about it at Trinity Valley Quilters’ Guild meeting last Friday. So I had to join the Facebook group, subscribed to the blog and by last Wednesday I couldn’t resist any longer. Following Nikki’s suggestion I printed all the block patterns, inserted each in a page protector and keep them in a notebook. Since there will be 100 blocks (oh my!), I may need more protectors and a bigger notebook!
So last Wednesday I made blocks 17, 18, and 19. I actually started with block 19, since it had just been released and all the pictures on Facebook were just too cute. This block is called Measure Twice, Cute Once:
A little bit more challenging. Remember, this is a 6″ block. The next block was coming out on Thursday, so I went to bed Wednesday night ready to whip out the Thursday block and catch up on a few older ones. Well, block 20 was a doozy! Called Nature’s Walk and so incredible cute, it was well worth the three days it took me to finish!
