Challenges

Oh my goodness, the 2018 UFO Challenge is almost upon us!  But wait, I haven’t finished the unfinished objects from 2017!

I got some finished, I’ve moved some to the 2018 list and I’ve decided to skip some of them for now. Notice that the 2018 list is typed… that’s because I’ve had my own challenge… a minor bit of hand surgery (to fix arthritis in a thumb joint) has limited my writing and my hand sewing as well as rotary cutting and scissor cutting.

Number 12 on the UFO list is a project that I did all the cutting for before surgery.  It is number 12 because that was the number randomly chosen by American Patchwork & Quilting as the January project.

I knew I could work on this in January! I can easily push fabric through the sewing machine.

Another easy machine applique project on the list is this laser cut Christmas tree.  Why I didn’t get this done for this Christmas I don’t know.

I have a couple of Sue Spargo wool applique projects on the list… it may be a few months before I can play with those:

The blocks for the bunny quilt have multiplied from 21 last year to 61 this year.  Progress but not a finish.  Yet.

Another challenge I’m having fun with is this new toy I got for Christmas:

Learning this has been a bit more daunting than I thought but I figure if I can’t cut out fabric with scissors I have a tool that can!  So far I’ve messed up enough to know that I need a class!

In 2018 I hope I can be better at finishing more UFOs than last year.  Last year I think I started more than I finished!  But starting is always so much fun!

Happy New Year, y’all!  Have fun!

  1. I have the same cutter. You have to use an iron on such as Heat and Bond on your fabric. It gets messy. I need a class, also, and have not been able to find one. Clue me in if you find one, please.

  2. You’ve inspired me to make my list for 2018! I got several projects done from my 2017 list but a few will move to 2018! At least it keeps me more focused on finishing.

  3. Well, talk about behind! With 2 CTS surgeries and a trigger thumb surgery I am hoping that 2018 will leave me alone and I will shift 6 of my projects to the 6 and 6 in 2018! So many hand projects that need to be completed! Here is hoping that you can catch up also and stay away from those surgeries – they are killers!
