January UFO Challenge Update

In my last post I talked about the 2018 UFO Challenge.  January was number 12 on the list and number 12 is the my Kaffe Fasset Burst of Blooms … and it’s done!  Well, the top is done, ready for the long arm quilter.

Yay!  Now, rather than go on to another UFO, I had to start a new quilt.  You know, starting is so much more fun than finishing!

Here is the pattern for my new quilt:

I’m using Shibori fabric and I used my new ScanNCut to cut all the applique.  Slowly but surely I’m getting the hang of this new toy:

So, after cutting 30 umbrella parts, I can now stitch them on the background.  Here is a peak at my design wall:

I’m using MonoPoly thread from Superior  Had to work out the settings for my machine (Bernina QE 750).  I’m using a Microtex 60 needle, Bottom Line thread in the bobbin and a tension set to 2.0. A tiny little zigzag and you can barely see the stitches.

And I love the blue Shibori fabrics designed by Debby Maddy for Moda. I think it’s going to be a fun quilt and hopefully won’t be on next year’s UFO list!

Happy Monday, y’all!

  1. I just hung my umbrella quilt over my guest bed. I am quite pleased with it. Blue is my favorite color (most days) and so I LOVE your choice!

  2. I love this, I need to retreat at your house and cut them, I have the fabric, bought after I heard her speak. Good idea 💡
