Civil War Quilt BOW – The Rosebud Challenge

My goodness, this is the third week in a row with a very challenging block!  First it was Y seams, then curved seams and now bunches it itty bitty triangles.

Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Quilt blog commemorates the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.  Every week we get a new block and a bit of related history.  This week is the block is Rosebud and the fascinating story of Rose Greenhow, a famous Confederate spy.  The Flickr Civil War BOW group has been a great resource for inspiration and encouragement!

Here is this week’s block:

This week’s block has helped me realize how much I really need to work on the accuracy of my 1/4″ seams.  A little bit too much here and a little bit too much there and suddenly the block’s pieces don’t fit together as they should.  Then it’s rip rip rip.

I recently purchased Qtools Sewing Edge (a vinyl stop) and Qtools Corner Cut 60.  The Corner Cut 60 has a marking for a scant 1/4″.  Between these two tools and a lot of experimentation and practice, maybe I can improve my piecing and reduce my ripping time.  I’ll let you know!
