I have three grandchildren – all under the age of 2 1/2. Mikey, Maggie and Oscar. Mikey is ALL BOY – right now he thinks he is superman! Maggie is ALL GIRL – loved going to a dress-up tea party a few days ago. Here they are:
Oscar is ALL BABY – cuddly and cute. I’m sure he’ll be ALL BOY very soon, so we are enjoying the cuddle time now while we can. Here is sweet Oscar on one of his baby quilts (isn’t he cute?).
Of course, I have made them all baby quilts and a few matching diaper bags. I’ve learned a lot about what their Momma’s like. In this blog I’d like to show you Oscar’s quilts. They are the most recent so I have the pattern and fabric information on hand. The other kid’s quilts will be more of a mystery. I promise I will keep better track in the future!
So far, Oscar’s blue and white Double Irish Chain quilt (the most recent) is the favorite. Here’s another look:
I fashioned the quilt top using a book called The It’s OK If You Sit On My Quilt Book by Mary Ellen Hopkins.
I backed it with Minky fabric, which makes it very warm and super soft. It was difficult to machine quilt but well worth it. Here is Oscar sleeping on the back of the quilt. Looks comfy.
Oscar’s other quilt and matching bag were made from Under Construction fabric by Hoffman using the Turning Twenty pattern by Tricia Cribbs. I also made a matching bag with BOY appliqued on the front. This fun bag pattern is called “The Junk Bag” by Jackie Clark.
Baby quilts are so much fun! I will follow-up with more on Mikey’s and Maggie’s quilts very soon.
Have a great day!

Hi, my name is Linda and I am a Nana also with a grandson named Oscar. He is 7 months old. Your Oscar is a beautiful baby also. Love the name Oscar it is so old fashion and not heard much any more but it is a family name. I just wanted to tell you my plans for my grandchildren (we have 6- 1 girl and 4 boys) anyway I am making them each a wedding quilt….yes a wedding quilts. They are ages 10 to 7 months and I am 59. So I am making there wedding quilts now (king) and putting them in pillow cases. That way if I am not here when they get married they can pick a pillow case (not knowing which quilt is which pillow case). I figure if they all wait till they are 30 (like all 3 of my sons did) I would be 90 yrs. old when Oscar gets married so I am getting them done now! Grandkids are wonderful and when you get tired you can send them home. Love your blog and will catch up with it later. Linda from Ohio
Linda, what an absolutely beautiful idea! Since I wrote that blog, we found out that Oscar is going to be a big brother in July! We don’t know if it’s a boy or girl yet, but as soon as we know I will start working on another baby quilt. But I do love your wedding quilt idea and am sure they will be treasured by each of your grandchildren!
