This week’s Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Quilt block of the week is called Star of the West. Each week Barbara includes a block pattern and a bit of Civil War history. Today’s blog included a fascinating story about Jessie and John C. Frémont. Be sure to check out the blog.
When piecing my Star if the West block I tried to use some of the scant 1/4″ seam techniques I worked on this week and blogged about yesterday. The block turned out to be 8.5″ which was the desired size. Working with triangles can be tricky as they seem to skew and have a mind of their own but I am happy with my results:

Good luck to all my East coast readers – I hope Hurricane Irene blows by quickly, that you stay safe and your fabric stash stays dry!
