Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along – Bunch More Blocks

I’m still playing catch-up with the Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along.  This is my week 4, but the official Flickr group quilt along is on week 13.  The challenge has been to piece 2 blocks each week from The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book (by Laurie Aaron Hird).  This week I made blocks 14 through 18.

I did paper piece each block using the foundation patterns on the Farmers Wife Sampler Yahoo Group.  I am primarily using Aunt Grace fabrics with some additions from my stash.

Here are some close ups of each block:

FW 14 - Butterfly at the Crossroads

With the Butterfly at the Crossroads block I tried to select fabric that would give the impression of a butterfly in a natural setting.

FW 15 - Buzzard's Roost

The black fabric reminded me of speckled bird eggs (a quick Google search shows that buzzards have speckled eggs :-)) and I used the yellow for contrast.

FW 16 - Calico Puzzle

I thought the Calico Puzzle block showed off the pretty aqua and red fabric.  One of my favorites this week!

FW 17 - Cats & Mice

I had to use the cat fabric with this block!  I found the foundation paper piecing really difficult – somehow I ended up with a Y seam.  If I had to do the block over, I would use the templates and not paper piece.

FW 18 - Century of Progress

I thought this was a very strange, uneven looking block.  Checked myself several times on the fabric layout to make sure it was correct.  The circus fabric was fun and I thought the blue and white fabrics set it off well.

So I’m up to 18 blocks completed.  The group is at 26 but nobody seems to be stressing over “rules” 🙂 !

Have a great week y’all!!!
