This is the first day of Fall! The Autumnal Equinox! And I am so glad – it has been an awfully long, hot summer here in Texas and we are ready to get on with Fall!
In my kitchen I have two big windows with a nice space between them where I like to hang quilted wall hangings appropriate to the season. Here was Summer:
This is from a Whims Watercolor Quilt Kit called Oasis. If you actually go to the Whims web site, you might notice that my trees are on the left, rather than the right. Um, I’d like to say that was on purpose, but I was still a newby at applique when I made this quilt. Live and learn, right!
So let’s take down Summer and commence with the first Fall quilt (with Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc., there are several quilts for Fall). This particular quilt has a matching table runner:
Here’s a close-up of the wall hanging:
This was made from a Moda Fabulous Fall quilt panel by Deb Strain that I picked up at a quilt show a couple of years ago. Parts of the panel didn’t appeal to me, so I stitched some simple quilt blocks and appliqued them on top. I hand quilted the pumpkin and surrounding Fabulous Fall area but machine quilted the rest.
The table runner came from a really nice pattern book (Let’s Do Lunch by Atkinson Designs) that I picked up on our Napa Valley trip a couple of years ago. We alternated visiting vineyards and quilt shops. It was GREAT fun. The table runner pattern is called Club Sandwiches (what a great name!):
I picked up a few Fall decorations at World Market yesterday including these owls and turkeys. They seem quite at home:
Fall is one of my favorite seasons, with lots of family events like birthdays, Halloween and Thanksgiving, lots of football, quilt shows and cooler weather. I am so happy it has finally rolled around!
