The first clue for the Carol Doak Twisting Mystery Quilt was posted yesterday on the Carol Doak Yahoo Group. I had spent yesterday afternoon cutting the fabric and getting it organized in Ziploc quart bags. So, this afternoon when I got home from lunch with a dear friend I was ready to start.
The clue was easy to follow and I had no problems printing the PDF pattern on my foundation paper (I used Carol Doak Foundation Paper). For others participating in the Mystery, be sure to have “Paper Scaling” set to “None” when you print – that should give you the correct size. I used my Add-a-Quarter ruler which allows you to use your rotary cutter to trim excess fabric and gives you a straight line to line up your next piece of fabric. I’ve recently become a big paper piecing fan and have found the ruler and the foundation paper to be essential.
Here is the results of Clue #1 pinned in a cypress tree in the woods behind my house.
So far, I am really happy with my fabric choices. I especially like the black with the blue swirls. There are several other blocks out on the Carol Doak Yahoo Group already posted. It is fun to see the many different fabric choices and combinations.
