Civil War BOW – Order Number Eleven and a Quilt Show Sighting

I have been following Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Block of the Week which began back in January.  This is week 40 and the block is called Order Number Eleven.  Strange name for a block and to quote Barbara’s blog: “Order Number Eleven was named for a Union order forcing Southern sympathizers to leave their homes.”

Barbara’s blog has been fascinating, not just for the weekly blocks, the camaraderie of the Flickr group but also the interesting history lessons included each week.  Be sure to check out her blog to see how the Union order is related to this block:

At the Trinity Valley Quilt Show in Fort Worth this weekend I spotted this quilt featuring blocks that came from Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Quilt blog:

Civil War BOW Quilt - Linda Hailey quilter

According to the show program it was pieced and stitched by Linda Hailey.  I like that she has attached a chart with the block names and the way she has set the blocks with the red starred corner stones.  Great job!

  1. Your block is beautiful and I love the way you photographed it on a tree. Your fabrics are so pretty!

Thanks for sharing the quilt made by Linda Hailey using Barbara Brackman’s Civil War BOW patterns! What a surprise!

Linda Hailey must have worked very quickly to finish the first 35 blocks in time for this quilt show. Very impressive.

Isn’t it interesting to see how she set it together! What perfect star fabric! I can’t wait until we can all share our tops/quilts and see the many ways these blocks will finish into quilts.

Hopefully, we can have an on-line quilt show!

Thanks again, for being such a great contributor to our Civil War BOW – and for making a block for our group quilt.
