Hard to believe we only have two more weeks of the Civil War Block of the Week! Barbara Brackman’s blog commemorates the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War with quilt blocks and related history each week. This week the block is called New York and reminds us fairs held by the ladies during that era to raise money for the soldiers. The most famous fair was held in New York in 1864.
Here is my New York block precariously displayed on the wreath on my front door:
It took me longer to get the block to stick on the wreath than it took to make it! Double-sided sticky tape and a very patient husband were the trick.
Here is a closer look at the block:
The fabric line I’ve used for 95% of this project (Neesha by Sentimental Studios) has no blue star fabric. But I really felt like I could stray away to another fabric for this block – it really called for the blue I ended up using.
The Civil War Flickr group has lots of great people displaying their Civil War blocks, and also inspiring, admiring and encouraging each other. It’s a great bunch and I hope we continue to stay in touch after the project is complete.
Have a great weekend, y’all! I hope you have time to enjoy all the blessings of the season!
