A Feathered Star, Oh My!!!

“Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!”

Flying Geese, Square-in-a-Square and a Feathered Star, oh my!

Just Takes 2 took on a Feathered Star in the unit released on March 1.  Oh my – this was a very challenging block. The instructions certainly took some interpretation but I do like the method used to complete the block.

My friend Susan was working on her Feathered Star at the same time; maybe one step ahead of me at times and shared some of the pitfalls she encountered – thanks Susan!!!  The biggest tip I can pass on is not to sew all the half-square triangles together in pairs until you need them because the direction they are sewn makes a difference.

Susan and I are both so tremendously proud of our Feathered Stars and are looking forward to seeing what surprises Just Takes 2 has in store for us next week.

Have a great week, y’all – oh, the week is almost over!  Then have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Wow, I’m impressed. It looks fabulous. Several years ago I took a workshop at TVQG with Marsha McCloskey. Feathered stars are her specialty. It was tough! I hadn’t been back into the sewing game for very long before I took this class. It was obvious I needed some fine tuning on my skills. I don’t remember where that star is now. It was certainly not a keeper but I know I didn’t throw it out.

  2. There’s nothing like turning each sewn piece over and seeing that, indeed, you did not sew over a feather point!! Who knew life could be that exciting? Lol!! Your star is beautiful, Barbara, and thanks again for all your help and encouragement!

  3. Hi Cookie! I just found your blog tonight while Googling Cheryl Ann’s design walls that I saw at the Dallas Quilt Show yesterday. I sat here this evening and read your blog in its entirety! Love that you are in North Texas! I’m in Arlington. Keep up the wonderful posts. I’m enjoying your projects! Blessings!

  4. I love your blue and white Just Takes 2! Very pretty! I am making mine red and reads red. The feathered star was the most difficult so far for sure; I did get some of my pieces backwards, I will admit, and had to rip more than once. I’m not sure I’m going to do the compass block. I’m thinking of substituting another period block. This has been a fun BOM for sure!
